Any initial thoughts about what Connie might have done that led to reporters chasing her and theoretical comments by Frank that she'd brought it on herself?

It sounds as if someone named Elias has died or been killed. It doesn't come out and say yet exactly who he was...maybe a friend of Connie's or even a child???? Frank, who I assume is Connie's ex-husband or maybe brother...rather vague here...feels that whatever happened to Elias was some how Connie's fault.

At the time we were being introduced to Connie I thought Elias might be her son but it didn't have the right feel. Connie was somehow involved, maybe as a witness or alibi. Once I finished Chapter 8, I had a new theory though.

I thought the Elias was Connie's son who may have died suspiciously and she was the suspect.

When we first met Connie we didn't know about Elias but it did make you wonder if she was suspected of killing someone. I think Frank must be the ex-husband as it said she no longer had any use (or such word) for his name.

Same here, I thought Frank was the ex-husband, and Elias Connie's son who had probably died under suspicious circumstances - enough to have her hounded out of her home by press coverage, but not enough for police to bring a conviction against her.

I had no idea but you all have good ideas concerning Connie and her misdeeds.
