Are you surprised Joe stopped at Vera's for a drink?

No. If you've seen the Television show Joe was always going to Vera's for one thing or another. He sometimes even had a meal with her such as it was. I don't think Joe is in a hurry to go home either.

Considering the ear bashing Joe expects from Sarah(?) when he doesn't get home in good time, I was surprised that he lingered for a drink and a snack.

I was also very surprised Sergei. He should have gone straight home on one of the opportunities he was able to.

I can't imagine his wife could nag him more than Vera does.

Joe should go home as soon as possible. He deserves to be nagged if he never wants to go home. Do you think maybe Vera and Joe will have an affair in the future?

I think the Joe in this book is a bit different than the Joe in the previous books. I was surprised by his stopping by Vera's. I was also surprised that Vera seems interested in him in a less than professional way.
