Could the book Jenny was writing about Mattie be linked to her murder?

I believe the book is the entire reason for the murder. Where are her notes? Surely she was making notes and since they weren't on the laptop they must be in notebook and the notebook is more than likely in the missing bag.

Things would point that way at the moment.

I thought it was so obviously the motive for the murder, I immediately discounted it. I don't believe Ann would show her cards this early in the book.
