Why did you think Simon wanted to kill Alice?

From the way that Simon felt that he was responsible for Patrick's death he may not have viewed that drowning Alice was punishment for her...he may have looked at it as him "saving" her. ..."mothers are bad because they let their children drown".

I think he blamed Connie for Elias' death and wanted to kill Alice for revenge.

I agree that Elias seemed too far removed from Simon for him to really want to kill Alice because Connie was neglectful of keeping an eye on Mattie.

True but maybe he figured that killing Alice would have devastated Connie.

I also thought the reasoning for him killing Alice didn't add up. Very contrived.
