Was asking to see 'him' a sexist gaffe by Tim when he heard Dr. McAllister was in charge?

I did think 'Oops!' at this. Tim should have said "him or her", (in fact, I'm surprised he didn't). One should always say "him or her" these days, it is the only politically correct way to proceed.

You wouldn't have expected Tim to make this faux pas, now if it was Clough's I would understand it more.

I think he should have said "him or her" but I also don't think people should take offense over something that minor.

>4 Olivermagnus: It's amazing how quickly some people will jump on this, OM.
I was taught that 'he' should be read to encompass he/she, and that 'man' referred to the human race as a whole, not just the masculine half of it...
It always confounded me why some people got so uppity when Captain Kirk said "To boldly go where no man has gone before".
Nit-picking at its finest...

>5 Sergeirocks: - I agree. I was on jury duty earlier this year and was selected "forewoman". It made me chuckle.

I find it rather awkward to ask for him or her. I would probably ask to see the doctor. Or I might ask for him - can a woman be sexist in that way?

I don't think he was sexist. I haven't seen any previous evidence. Some people may be sensitive about this but I don't think he meant anything by it.

People need to get a life. There are too many other thinks in life to get your knickers in a twist about.

>9 Carol420: Unfortunately, Carol, I think the twisted-knicker people have the upper hand at the moment.

Some people are just unhappy without twisted knickers.
