When Nelson calls Ruth 'good girl', is that condescending?

Yes; but then Nelson is a Northern condescending prat and fast becoming a bit of a dinosaur. He doesn't necessarily think before he opens his mouth.

I would say that it would be rather condescending to call an adult woman a 'good girl'. I think Ruth just likes the attention Nelson is giving her and doesn't really care too much about the insult.

I don't see Nelson as a bastion of political correctness. I also don't think he means anyhing by it. As the older generation dies out that term will die too.

I don't think he intended to be condescending. I don't believe I would think anything of it...but the people that are politically correct about everything would take right off on it.

I do think it was condescending but not convinced he meant it to be. Shows his dinosaur side is still alive and kicking!
