I think it's safe to say so.
Luckily Rainsford was a softy and not a knife wielding maniac, or things might have turned out different, but on this occasion ankle-biting was enough to save the day.

Very good doggie. You know about biting ankles don't you little meerkat? I bet he was surprised. It was good that a knife or a gun wasn't involved.

I love it when the dog saves the day!

Seems like it - good doggy indeed. But a spaniel? And the murderer letting himself be held in check by him?

>4 Carol420: LOL, Carol.
I was hoping I'd slip under your radar on this one... I should have known better! ;D

>7 Sergeirocks: Indeed you should have. Now go bite some ankles.
>6 sushicat: I thought at first that this was rather wimpy little breed of dog to be holding anyone captive until I read about the little guys. They were bred to catch and kill rats and other rodents and stats say that 90% of all dog bites that turn up in hospitals in U.S. are from a spaniel breed. They're so cute that people underestimate them...kinda like poodles. Hard to take a dog seriously with a bow on it's head.

Doesn't the spaniel breed also come in a larger size? I'll have to google or ask my daughter when she comes back from her doctor's visit since I'm watching my grandson right now.
Google - can be large or small. Water spaniels can be 24 inches high.

>9 EadieB: They come in quiet a variety of sizes. From the little guys like the Papillon that's about 8 in (20 cm)...I looked that up...I know nothing about centimeters:) to the 22 in (56cm) Picardy Spaniel. I believe that may be the largest of the current spaniel breeds. We had one of these (Lacey), when the kids were small and no one came in the yard that she didn't know. The King Charles Spaniel is the little lap-dog variety. Not Great Dane or German Shepherd size but still could be taken seriously with the proper motivation and I think Lulu had plenty of motivation.

I think I've come to the wrong page! All this information about dogs, but seriously Carol thanks for the information. :)
To be honest I didn't consider what breed it was, not a great dog person due to an incident when I was a child so I would be intimidated by any breed of dog - big or small! But seriously 90% of all dog bites, that does surprise me. But the spaniel definitely saved her life!

Wow - 90% of dog bites - never expected that. My uncle used to have a Spaniel and going by that example (very mild mannered, probably somewhere in the mid-range in terms of size) I would not have expected that dog to hold a determined murderer in check.

>13 sushicat: As with any breed training and handling plays a big role in their dispositions and behavior. Not all pit bulls are killers and not all little balls of fluff are gentle.
