Have you read any Chris Carter books before?

Are you looking forward to this discussion? Why?

This is my first Chris Carter book, but it is a book I've wanted to read for a long time.

Hopefully it's not too gritty for other group members.

I haven't read anything by him either. He's got quite a few on his website.

Honestly, I don't know what to expect from the book - hopefully, it will be a good one since it's part of a trilogy

I've read three of his books...this is my fourth one... and they are ALL very, very dark. I think people will read the description and decide for themselves if it's too much and I expect it will be for some. The thing with Chris Carter's books is that the grittiness never stops or slows down...great for those of us that don't mind it but others? Have to wait and see.

Having read the first section hopefully people will be able to gloss over the gritty bits sand focus on the detection. I don't particularly dwell, overthink or even try to visualise the gritty bits. But may be more difficult for others.

This is my first Chris Carter novel. I generally like gritty suspense but I do skip over some of the actual details of the crime. I've read the first section and didn't feel like it was too bad.

I'm leaving Friday to take a mini vacation in Dallas with my sister for five days. I'm planning to join the group between bouts of barbecue and margaritas.

Have a great time Lynda. I have relatives that live in Beaumont near Houston. I'm going to a convention in Austin next April and hope to meet up with them. Have a margarita for me!

I feel the same way. Gritty but don't dwell on details. Wouldn't be able to watch the TV show, but the book is less visual if you read fast! lol

>6 Olivermagnus: Have a great vacation. You can do a margarita for me too...please. Are Oliver and your hubby planning any mischief while you're gone?

This is my first Chris Carter and I'm looking forward to it. I tend to enjoy the grittier books so this should be perfect, especially for this time of year.

I just downloaded the book (my library had NO Carter at all!) so hopefully I'll be able to dive in this morning yet.

This is also my first Chris Carter book. I'm almost done with the first section and am a bit worried about the violence (I didn't finish Eeney Meany--too much gratuitous "ick factor" for me). However, the descriptions of the crime are not overwhelming the story in this one so far, so I am hopeful the balance will work out for me!

I read The Hunter, a short story, two years ago; I liked it. This is what I wrote about it:

"A good little cameo; an introduction to Robert Hunter, describing his first 'case' with the LAPD Robbery Homicide Division.
I enjoyed this short story very much, fast-paced with no wasted wordage! I know it's only a taster, and the novels will be a lot grittier, but on the strengths of this story, I will try out the series in the future.
4.5★s, (and I don't give my stars too easily!!!)."

I am thus prepared for gritty but hopeful that the overall story will be worth it.

That's interesting, Sergei, because I know how you feel about gritty!

This is my second Chris Carter. The other one was definitely very gritty, but it worked for the story, so I was ok with it.
