LoisB may or may not read 75 this year

I've been a member of the 75 Books Challenge groups for a few years now. This past year, as a Type A, goal-oriented personality, I found that reading became something I had to do, not something I wanted to do. I decided to change my approach and am not setting a specific number of books to read, nor am I setting specific target categories. I am going wherever the road takes me. But, this group is my LT home, so I'm going to hang out here, if you all don't mind.

Of course we don't mind! The challenge was never meant to take the fun out of reading, so your approach is perfect.

I started doing the same thing with last year's 75 challenge. Without making myself read according to a category it became my "breezy reading" year. Enjoy your 2017 reads!

1. Trail of Broken Wings

My first (and probably last) audiobook. Good story, but I have trouble maintaining focus when listening. Also, miss be able to easily turn back a page or two.

2. Confessions of a Prairie Bitch

An interesting memoir by the woman who played Nellie on Little House on the Prairie.

3. Umbrella Man

Although paranormal mysteries are not my favorite genre, Umbrella Man was a great read. There were two plots within the single story - the first plot surrounding the death of a popular high school student while the second plot identified the paranormal activity behind the town killings. Both the good and bad characters were believable and the story which takes place in Central Florida, had many surprising twists. I look forward to reading more of the author's works.

4. Sick Puppy

I read this gift from a friend who told me that the author's books were "funny". I failed to see the humor. Towards the end I found one passage of black humor that made me laugh, but I can't say that I enjoyed it.

5. The Underground Railroad

Interesting novel about slaves escaping from a Georgia plantation via the underground railroad. If the entire book had been as compelling as the final chapters, I would have rated it higher.

I've read earlier in January and liked it very much.
Wishing you a wonderful week, Lois.

6. The Barrowfields

This was an ARC that I received from the LT Early Reviewers program. It's a nice uneventful story that meanders through the childhood and early adult life of Henry- a young man with an unusual upbringing in an unusual home. The novel was strange in that I could never figure out where it was going until the end when I decided that the meandering was critical to the plot.
