"For scientific discovery give me Scott, for swift and efficient travel give me Amundsen. But when disaster strikes and all hope is gone, get down on your knees and pray for Shackleton."

Even 6hough it's fiction, have you ever read Madeleine L'Engle's Troubling a Star? Fascinating.

kcasada, I have read many of L'Engle's books, but not this one. I will look for it. It looks like a good one.

Another fun teen novel about Antarctica is Surviving Antarctica: Reality TV 2083.

I personally find Douglas Mawson to be one of the great forgotten antarctic explorers. The story of tragedy and survival he tells in "Home of the Blizzard" is incredible.

I vote for Mawson, too. What a story of individual courage!
