I made these notes from Gore Vidal's book years ago, but wonder what can be believed in "historical" novels.
p634- As he sat in Jefferson Davis' chair in the abandoned capital at Richmond, Lincoln said, it is so much like a dream, but then I dream so much it is hard for me to tell sometimes what is real and what is not."
Since delusion of all types is a mark of mental instability, was this the implication of Vidal?

p578-Lincoln: I will say that I do put some faith in dreams. I have one recurring dream the night before some great event (ambiguous?). I just had it the night before Atlanta fell...I'm on a raft...without a pole or rudder...at the center of a river...drifting...
