I wonder how many times I've opened this Apostolic Exhortation;
how often I've thought about the Latin expression Evangelii Nuntiandi; and how often I've wondered about the use of the English words Evangelize and Evangelizer rather than the forms Evangelism and Evangelist. Pope Paul Vi uses the term Evangelizer ten times in the first Chapter, and uses Evangelist only once, in reference to St John, author of the fourth Gospel.
The Pope refers to our Lord Jesus as the Evangelizer (pp3, 10, 13), also the Church itself (p 13), and all Christians (p17).
I admit I didn't think much of this terminology beyond it being what I considered a curious translation into English: following my English composition courses' teaching that the shortest word is the best (ie Evangelism preferable to Evangelization).
If I could change the name of the group to Evangelizers, would you be any more likely to contribute, and join?
Is anyone out there an Evangelizer, if not an Evangelist?
