Why remove the brain?

I have no idea.

That doesn't make much sense unless you are doing an autopsy or was the person studying to be a doctor.

I can't imagine why, unless they were practicing mummification. I know they do that with a hook through the nose cavity.

I read once about a ceremony that I believe it was the Aztecs performed where the organs were separated and not allowed to touch. They believed that if the organs didn't touch the body they were taken from the person would be reborn or something like that. I thought about reading that when I got to that section. I can't remember where I read it and it might not have been the Aztecs. Just seem familiar.

Very strange, especially as other organs were still present in jars. Brain taken out through the nose, yuk! Also remind me never to die in Papua New Guinea, don't fancy being eaten! 😱

not sure -- why leave the other organs but not the brain?

>8 bhabeck: To some cultures the brain is the soul of the person. Maybe they couldn't take her soul.

I've no clue why they took the brain.

I thought it was odd myself that everything else was preserved, but the brain missing.

Very curious indeed. Is it confirmed that there was nothing else missing from the body. Maybe they took everything out and only left the intact organs in the jars and removed the rest entirely.
