Were you surprised that Tony was invited onto the Barnaby Smythe murder? Did you think he was being set up as the fall guy?
2Sergeirocks
I was surprised that he was asked to partake, given the animosity of Duguid.
If Tony thinks he is being lined up as a possible scapegoat, who am I to argue with him? After all, he knows the politics within his own police hierarchy.

I think Duguid is looking at the option of having Tony participate so he can blame him when things go wrong.

It certainly does seem like Tony is right. I don't like Jayne McInyre or Charles Duguid. I wouldn't trust them either.

I like Jayne. I hope she doesn't turn out to be bad. I'm looking forward to positive woman role models in male dominated professions for a change.

>5 Olivermagnus: There certainly seem to be a lot more female characters in this story than we usually see: several police officers and a SOC; plus the pathologist's assistant.

I think I'm getting this mixed up with my current read Blue Murder by Emma Jameson. Both lead detectives named Tony and victims killed by an ax. I hope I'm not losing my mind........

I don't think in light of Tony's recent promotion to inspector that Duguid could really afford to not let Tony view the crime scene. it would have made him look bad if word got back to Jayne. Also if anything went wrong he would have Tony to blame. I agree Lynda...Jayne is going to be okay I believe. She's nothing like Steele.

I like Jayne so far so I hope she isn't setting him up for a fall, I don't get the concept of passing the blame down the food chain. As the head person if someone were to go wrong I take ultimate responsibility, I am the person at the top, if somebody hasn't followed procedures or policy they would be disciplined but ultimately it is my name on the door! The buck stops here!
I was very surprised that they invited him on.

Obviously, I can't understand how others get away with passing the blame down the line.

I would like to think that they're not setting him up to be the fall guy but am not sure. I'd like to think it's because they value his investigative skills and that he has a different take on things than Dagwood.

I think Duguid is agreeable to having him on the team because he tends to make Tony the fall guy if things go south.
I think Jayne wants Tony on the case because she knows he's good, has some knowledge of the victim's social circle and knows he's a competent Inspector (I think she knows Duguid's not the best man for the job)

I'm thinking he's just being a little paranoid. If I were him I'd be annoyed that I had to work on three cases with such limited resources (honestly, what is that tiny room they're supposed to work both of those cases in?!?!) and only 2 other inspectors. I think given the high profile nature of the case, it makes sense they would want an "all hands on deck" approach, and given what he'd told Duguid earlier about being from the area, and his being friends with the medical examiner, he may be able to provide new insights, especially since he's far more likeable.
