Do you have any early thoughts or theories about what is going on?

I think I've already answered this in the previous questions - I got ahead of myself, :D
A ritualistic search for longevity at the end of the war - and now an old man (from Russia or France maybe?) has come looking for the men responsible for the death of his loved one: which means 5 more old men ought to be very worried...

I do not have any theories but I'm certain the old man is part of it.

Maybe the old man could be McLean's grandmother's husband's twin.

It was some school friends experimenting with satanic rituals (or some such thing) and carried things too far. Now, decades later, the original friends are being hunted and killed - and proof stolen from the homes
