Any thoughts on the mysterious message McLean hears when playing back his answerphone messages?

That was rather spooky since when he played back the tape it seemed to have disappeared.

That was totally Spooksville. I don't think he imagined it but where did it go?

I thought perhaps the reader is meant to believe it's the voice of the dead girl?

I thought it was the voice of the dead girl, or of someone who was about to be killed, or indeed was current,y being killed. All very supernatural, it was never going to be on that tape.

>6 Sergeirocks: Good point, I did re-read those words a few times but it does seem as though someone has been abducted and is going to be killed. Is the occultism (if that is what it is) still going on? Very confusing.

I found this a leap. Is McLean having a psychotic breakdown due to lack of sleep and stress relating to his grandmother's death.

I thought that was pointing to the dead girl and that she was asking him to solve her murder.

I do hope it turns out being the subconscious playing tricks on an overtired mind.

Totally creepy, but not sure it's really anything. Unless someone is trying to reach out to him. Maybe there's more of that girl to be found? Maybe there's another girl buried somewhere else?

Someone is playing mind games with him.
