Any thoughts as to why Buchan Stewart had been acting strangely before he was murdered?

I just thought he had a new lover and it was suggested that he may be a younger lover.

He's more than likely read or heard about the other deaths and if he is connected with them when he was younger he probably was expecting to be killed. I think the lover angle is a smoke screen.

No idea.

At first I thought it may be someone following him as a preliminary to killing him, linked to Smythe's murder. Given my answer in the last question it could well be a lover and he killed him, but not Garner. I don't see Garner as having killed him. But to be honest a bit confused about exactly what went on at this stage.

There's a possibility he was being pursued by someone claiming to be attracted to him. I think it was for the purpose of murdering him for some reason.

I think it relates to the fact that the girl was found and he expected some fallout from that. Or maybe he got anxious when he heard about Smythe.

>3 Carol420: I agree. He found out about Smythe's death and figured he was a target. It could also explain why he was pushing Garner to leave town-he didn't want his lover in harm's way.

>10 bluebird_: I can buy that. Send him away...far away.
