What was your overall impression of the book and the author's style?

I really like the writing style - it was easy to read, kept me interested and wanting to continue after each section.

The characters were well done - McLean, Grumpy Bob, Dagwood, etc. You could picture them while reading the book.

I really like this man's writing style and I enjoyed reading the book, but I'm going to have to mark him down slightly due to the conflicting nature of the story at times - Is it supernatural? Is it not supernatural? At times I wasn't sure how I was meant to be reading it...!
A good first attempt however. Hopefully, he'll have honed his craft in the next book.

I really liked his way of writing and the characters that he offered. He gave us a detective to admire and like and one to hate. What more could we ask?

I think the supernatural aspect was written in when Natural Causes was originally written as a short story. When he rewrote it as a full length novel not all of the supernatural was written well into the storyline.

I like his writing style but hope that future books are written with the mystery/thriller style.

I agree with what Carol wrote.

>4 Carol420: In which case Oswald's editor is to blame for not helping smooth out the transition from short supernatural story to full length mainstream crime novel.

I thought it was good. I liked the characters too and hope he would transition towards a mystery/suspense theme.

>6 Sergeirocks: It seems that that would have been the editor's job.

I also like his style of writing. A very readable, well paced book that I didn't want to set down.
I love his characters!

Very readable, well paced, enjoyed the characters. I think I might have appreciated it more if it had been clear that supernatural elements would be part of the story.

>10 sushicat: I agree. The supernatural caught us all on the wrong foot.

I agree that these books were very well crafted with great characterisation and an interesting plot that moved along well. Had trouble keeping up with the body count at one point. Wish Alison Kydd hadn't been killed. 😢
