Since I've got a terrible sinus infection, I won't start with my intended first book of 2008, The assault on Reason by Al Gore - the way I feel I wouldn't do it justice. So today we're reading a lovely Regency romance by Kasey Michaels called The Secrets of the Heart.

Sinus infections are the worst! Hope you feel better. Lots of tea, romance novels, and extra rest usually do the trick for me :)

Thanks, lbucci3! I just looked at your profile. You are so lucky - enjoy your time at school and there will be nothing better than your time in London of all places! We seem to have quite a few books in common, don't we?
I've gotten some antibiotics, tea and sympathy from husband and daughter, and am back at work, not 100%, but at least here.
I finished Secrets and read The Passion of an Angel by the same author. I also read another of her books, The Beleaguered Lord Bourne. I got rid of Passion and Secrets - weren't worth keeping on the shelves.
I have now started The Assault on Reason.

I'm still slogging on with The Assault on Reason. It's good and depressing because it's so true and I'm sick all over again about what Bush and Co have done to my country. It's a slow read.
I'm also reading Tempest by Laura Parker. It's a Regency and I've read it before... I'm having a tough time finding something I want to read right now for some strange reason.

I'm in the middle of Perfume the story of a murderer by patrick suskind. The language is lyrical and a joy to read.
Next will be Water for Elephants by sara Gruen. It's the first book in our bookclub's new year. There are 12 of us, so we have floating years.
Plus, still working away at The Assault on Reason.

I finished Perfume The Story of a Murderer. Couldn't sleep around 2 a.m. so started Water for Elephants and have read 104 pages so far. It is absolutely wonderful. I would never have picked it up, but that's what a bookclub's for, I guess.

Whew! Finished Water for Elephants in record time. It was such a wonderful book. I've started Candide or Optimism by voltaire.

Hey beeg:
Yes, although I never "liked" Grenouille (which translates as frog, by the way). I had sympathy for him as a child, but not when he started manipulating people and events. I loved the language, the time it evoked, and the story itself. Strange end.

yeah, the ending was off a bit, but I loved his writing style, and the concept - that people respond and react to smells, even to the point of being disguised. I just loved the whole idea even though the Frog was ugly inside and out.

Finished Candide or OPtimism the other day and have started my first Classic - 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne. I'm reading a new translation - apparently the original translation into english was woefully inadequate. Up to page 93 and I'm really enjoying it.
