Where did we get up to in the story?

What are you hoping for from this book?

I'm hoping for another interesting lesson in history, plus a good present-day adventure.

The Hunters by Chris Kuzensk
The Hunter series Book #1

A new team is brought together, although they do not know by whom.

The team consists of Jack Cobb - a former soldier, who is grouped with Sarah -a renowned art thief. Garcia -an expert in all things technological - and Jasmine who is fluent in many languages and well versed in ancient cultures and religions - and Josh McNutt who is not a weapons expert… but a deadly marksman with a penchant for killing.

Their task is to locate the treasure so long hidden away, formerly from the Romanian Royal Family.

The task involves a character who lives his dream… Dobrev, an engineer on the Russian Railways, who gets to drive his most favorite railway engine in the world ….plus two Russian Detectives…a village full of people who have been sheltered from the world for most of their lives… and a group known as The Black Robes who wish to find evidence concerning their inspiration, namely Raputin and will willingly kill anyone that gets in their way.

The story moves at a fast pace with barely a pause for breathe and we found that we had to suspend our disbeliefs on some occasions.

The main problem all had with the story was the characters reactions to events and the fact that we never really found out who had really put the team together. Perhaps this question will be answered in Book #2.

Stats: There were 6 people that took part in the discussion who gave the book an overall rating of 3.71.

Comments: "Not overwhelmingly great read, but interesting proposition, based on true facts and Kuzneski's ancestral background. I'm feeling generous enough to give it 4 stars, because overall I enjoyed the plot and the writing could just have been a bit smoother for my liking."

"It wasn't great literature or as good as some of his other books that I've read... but there was parts of it that were really good...not good enough for 4 but tolerable and promising."

"Anyone looking for small team military action, espionage, tomb raider type treasures with several twists and turns then you cannot go wrong with this book"

The Forbidden Tomb by Chris Kuzenski
The Hunter Series Book #2

The book opens with black clad swordsman slaughtering a archeological group of students while their leader watches from a sand dune in the Sahara Desert where he is retuning from a walk.

A little over six months later the Hunter team is once again called upon to find a treasure. The team…led by Jack Cobb, is off again…and the task is to find the tomb of Alexander the Great.

Their benefactor (Cooper) has offered to double their pay to ten million dollars each if they find it. He also makes a longer appearance this time in the story and we learn how devious he really is.

Sarah and Jack enter the ancient cistern tunnels under the streets of Alexandria to recon the mission before anyone goes in…but they have already attracted unwanted attention in the person of Hussen…the local “godfather “ figure that rules with ruthlessness and an iron hand. He sends a duo of killers after Sarah and her friend, Simon who she has called on to advise the team.

Jack thinks that the task should be fairly simple if there are any clues there to tell them the location of the tomb. But when the team enters the tunnels again they find that they are not alone. The duo from Hussen is there with reinforcements…but a third group has joined the group that one team member dubs “The Monkey Men”. These are killers that don’t hesitate to destroy everything and everyone to preserve their secrets.
There is lots of action in this one. Jasmine is kidnapped in the tunnel after discovering a hidden ancient, bricked –up wall that provides the team with clues in their quest for Alexander’s tomb.

Everyone seems to get involved including the U.S. Marines. Some much unexpected events also occur.

All of the 6 participants really liked the book with ratings ranging from 4 to 4.5 with an overall rating of 4.17. All participants said that this book was better than the first book.

Comments:
A little bit of a slow start. Someone might lose interest before they get to the good parts.”

"I wish he would make his team act more like professionals…or at least more mature...instead of resembling a bunch of teenagers. I also could have used less info about explosives and weapons...but overall there was nothing that really distracted from the enjoyment of the story."

"I always like the history element from Kuzneski. His characters have grown in this book."

"I liked the history elements. The story had lots of surprises. I like the treasure hunt aspect."

"I liked the history elements. The story had lots of surprises. I like the treasure hunt aspect."

"Definitely the history was a strength, and the Group grew on me more in this book. Overall the plot was good, interesting to find a bit more about the links in the books which makes it more interesting."

I'm going to be a little late to this one. The book hasn't come back to the library. I think I can get it from Overdrive. At any rate....I'll be here.

>4 Carol420: Thanks for the great synopses, Carol; you always provide a much needed reminder of the series so far.

I've got the book, but I think I'm going to have problems keeping up; my reading time is drastically reduced at present.
