I got The Dirt on Clean for Christmas. Has anyone read it?

Ok....I can answer my own question. I enjoyed this history of beliefs surrounding personal hygiene.

I have not read it, but it sounds really interesting and a good addition for the libraries of those of us who are interested in social/commodity histories. I tend to think of them as very similar, since so many commodity histories are about the role of a thing in society.

Ok, I've requested this book from the library but apparently its a new order for them, so I might not have it for a while. I am number 5 on the list.

I saw a biography of Santa Clause by Jerry Bowler at Chapters. Has anyone read this? Should I invest my poket money on it?

Here's my review

Overall, I enjoyed it very much, even though I would have liked a little more intellectual heft, I guess.

I really agree with your review. I was fascinated by how beliefs have changed. People once feared bathing more than we fear dirt. And, the definition of "clean enough" seems to be continuously drifting higher and higher.

I enjoyed the side bars and quotes. It made the book light and easy to read. Like you said, not a lot of intellectual heft, but that was ok with me.
