Welcome to August. What 1001-books are you reading this month?

I'm working on the not small Growth of the Soil.

I'm listening to The Things They Carried which is stunning.

I'm also reading The Passion which is typically good - Jeanette Winterson is able to make me enjoy books that would bore me in the hands of a lesser writer.

>3 M1nks: TTTC is one of my favorite books from the list.

I wasn't particulary desireous of reading it because of the subject matter - how wrong I was!

I've just finished listening to the non list A Room of One's Own which I have also put off a few times because Virginia Woolf is never light reading, and that also was spectacular. Two five star non-fiction reads in a row!

The Pharaoh and the Priest, as well as The Handmaid's Tale. The Handmaid's Tale will take me a while because I'm reading the Norwegian version side by side since I am trying to learn the language!

I'm just about to wrap up Hyperion, then I'll celebrate with a drink the fact that I've finished the 1700s books, then I should be able to motor through Castle Rackrent quickly, then I should be able to finish Elective Affinities too, and hopefully I'll start Sense and Sensibility before the month is over. It's gonna be a good month.

I think I read you somewhere saying you are a "slow reader" ...I beg to differ!

I'm finally reading The Charterhouse of Parma and then plan on reading The Heart of the Matter if I can get my hands on a copy. Lurking in the horizon is One Hundred Years of Solitude.

I've been reading The Female Quixote for almost a week. It is so silly that I have to read it in small doses.

I am listening to The Bonfire of the Vanities and I am finding it quite funny so far. It's got a lot of sections so I'll be listening to it for a while.

I put volume 4 of Proust on hold while I've been traveling the last couple weeks. I'm reading Jude the Obscure and To the North by Elizabeth Bowen instead.

I am also reading The Stone Diaries which is a reread for me but one I thought I should do since my book club is discussing it in September and I had little recollection of the story. As I read it some bits come back to me but it's a good thing that I am reviewing it.
