Perrault’s Fairy Tales 1998
The Folio Society has published many books of fairy tales, but one of the books that is often overlooked is The Fairy Tales of Charles Perrault.
Perrault’s name is not widely known, but his fairy tales are amongst the most widely read worldwide, and have been the basis for numerous Disney versions, that are extensively modified from the original versions in this book.
Written in the late 17th. Century, the nine tales in this book are:-
- Sleeping beauty
- Little Red Riding Hood
- Blue Beard
- Puss in Boots
- The Fairy
- Cinderella
- Riquet-with-the-Tuft
- Hop-o’-my-Thumb
- Beauty and the Beast
The type size is very large in this 185 page book, so it is a rapid read. The paper is thick Caxton Wove, and it is bound in full buckram with an inlaid design by David Eccles. The slipcase is a plain maroon 26x19.7cm.
There are 30 delightful colour illustrations, as well as black and white headpieces at the start of each story.

Thank you for these posts!
Those were the days, when FS published a book like this as a regular edition at a good price. These days it would probably be a limited edition, if it were published at all.
Another one like this is the Rackham Grimm, which is also a real treasure at an excellent price. A German bookseller actually laughed at me when I asked if a (more expensive) German edition had all the illustrations. Of course not at this price, was his comment.
