I can't find a thread on this any newer than through June, so, here one is.
Mark and I went on a hot date last night to the grocery store deli for dinner, where we ate at a table for two amongst the floral department ($6.77), then to the library for coloring night! We have a brand new, beautiful library, and they have a little room where Friends of the Library have a permanent store now. So, I had to browse. I came away with 7 books for $4.00. Told Mark I'm a pretty cheap date.
This is my haul:
The Golden Key by Henry Van Dyke, so pretty, and I very much enjoyed The Story of the Other Wise Man, plus it has a pretty cover. There were two other "vintage" books with lovely covers, but I left them for another person to find.
The Literary Garden: Bringing Fiction's Best Gardens to Life by Duncan Brine - sounds fun
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak - This has been on my radar for years, finally found it.
Then 4 lovely hardcovers to replace the paperbacks I have in the #1 Ladies Detective Agency series:
Blue Shoes and Happiness (I may already have this in a hardcover, but at .50, who cares, I'll just donate it back)
The Good Husband of Zebra Drive
Tea Time for the Traditionally Built
The Miracle at Speedy Motors
My 11th Thingaversary is coming up in October, so I have to start early.

Speaking to the Knysna Beekeepers Association last week required a recce to find the venue, didn't it? After all, it's over 1000 km from home. Turns out the hall is part of a library I didn't know about and need to add to LT. And the library had a book sale in the foyer. Two little books jumped into my arms -- how could I possibly resist? Details next week when I get home; right now I'm in Cape Town; our timeshare here is on the 6th floor, and the books are in the car in the parking lot. Story to be continued.
ETA: Catalogued (temporarily) from memory, and so I can give details:
Slice of Life: the British way of eating since 1945 by Christina Hardyment and
The History of Champagne by the redoubtable but now rather outdated Andre L. Simon
At ZAR5 each (less than US50c) each, a bargain, I'd say.

I went home via Forbidden Planet on Tuesday intending to buy one specific book, and came away with the following:
Icon by Genevieve Valentine (the book I intended to buy)
Invisible planets a collection of Chinese SF stories edited by Ken Liu
House of binding thorns by Aliette de Bodard (this was on the sale shelf at half price)
The family plot by Cherie Priest
Everfair by Nisi Shawl
Now I need to be good for the rest of the month.

>3 Sakerfalcon: Invisible Planets attacked me in a similar fashion. There I was walking past Books Upstairs and in the window I spied, Invisible Planets. The rest, as they say, is history, or, only to be expected.
Ken Liu translated Three Body Problem and it was Ken's name that caught my eye.

>4 pgmcc: Yes, books can be vicious that way. My bank account is bleeding this month.

>5 Sakerfalcon: I could make that comment about my bank account but the bit about, "this month", would redundant.

Heh, two of the books I brought home from the FotL store were already on my shelves. I didn't realize that I already had two of the Alexander McCall Smith stories in hardcover. Ah well, an extra dollar donated to the library is no worry for me, I shall take them back for another person to discover.

I found a new Oxfam Bookshop to check out yesterday in Royal Leamington Spa. Now that I'm working in Warwick I have to find somewhere to stay when I'm on shift and as RLS has a bigger town centre then that's where I ended up. Managed to restrain myself to just 4 new additions seeing as I'll have to cart them back with me on the train when I go home again.
The Orenda by Joseph Boyden - Heard lots of good things about this one and can't remember seeing a bad review.
Toll the Hounds by Steven Erikson - Even though I've not read this far in the series yet it was the next one I didn't have.
You Suck by Christopher Moore - Completes the series with all 3 books sat on the tbr shelves.
The Collapsing Empire by John Scalzi - It's an almost new copy so thought I might as well.

Some of the Kindle books I've ordered since July:
Read My Pins: Stories from a Diplomat's Jewel box by Madeleine Albright - Because I have a brooch collection of sorts and love shiny objects.
Picture Miss Seeton by Heron Carvic - Mostly for mom
The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan - 'cause, food
Tisha: the story of a young teacher in the Alaskan wilderness by Robert Specht - mom says this one was great!
Whoops! Out of lunch break. I have more to add. Lots more. Hangs head.

More Kindle books in the way of confession, but also to show that I am not being slack in acquiring new books for my 11th Thingaversary coming up in a few days.
Rivers of London: Detective Stories#3 by Ben Aaronovitch, I think this is a graphic novel
A Spy's Guide to Thinking by John Braddock
Miss Seeton Draws the Line by Heron Carvic, really for my mom because she loved the first one so much, but I'm sure I will read it one day.
The Emperor's Soul by Brandon Sanderson, audio
In Farleigh Field by Rhys Bowen, audio
The Hallowed Hunt by Lois McMaster Bujold, Kindle, as recommended by jillmwo

I almost used the fact that this is my Thingaversary month to buy the hardcover of this book, but then decided that I should probably preview it in the Kindle version in case it doesn't live up to its title.
Tequila Mockingbird: Cocktails with a Literary Twist by Tim Federle
I see the same author has another book focusing on Hollywood called Gone with the Gin. You can be pretty sure that one will find a home with me if the Tequila Mockingbird is any good at all.
Whoops! I'll start a new thread. This one has expired.
