Any thoughts what the light gun used in the battle in the Prologue was?

I was originally thinking that they were going to use it to set something (ie gunpowder?) on fire by concentrating the light (kind of like using a magnifying glass to fry ants). I didn't think they'd use it to blind the sentries.

Being silver inside and, therefore, reflective, I thought they were probably going to be used in some way to direct sunlight at the sentries and blind them while the army sneaked up unobserved. I had no idea, however, that the machines would be so sophisticated - almost like lasers... Wow!

I thought it was some sort of glass directing sunlight as a weapon.

Didn't really have a clue what this could be, it felt out of time. This was even more the case when we were told it was some laser type weapon.

I thought it was used as a way to blind the enemy.
