Are we too over reliant on computers? Will they be our ultimate weakness?

if you watch movies you think so...2001 Space Odyssey, Terminator, etc.

I actually do think that we're too reliant. People today couldn't survive if something serious were to happen like in the post-apocalyptic stories. Parents even use technology to babysit their children (dvds, ipads, game consoles, etc)

I think we rely too much on computers but I'm from an older generation and can remember "life" before computers. I think it's a mistake to completely rely on technology like that, especially when our recent election history shows how easy it can be manipulated.

>3 Olivermagnus: I guess you and I are from that same generation. I really like my computer and am still fascinated by the tasks it is capable of...but I am very careful what information I put out there. Along with teaching people how to make their lives easier with computers they should also think about teaching them what to do if... as >3 Olivermagnus: says...that technology should suddenly be gone.

I don't like the way 'mad scientists' are hurtling us towards AI (and that has nothing to do with this book or "I Robot" or any other fiction). Sentient machinery is always the risked outcome and NOT the way to go if humans wish to maintain their position on the Earth.

I like that Google is at my fingertips while I'm reading, but I hate that my car is reliant on a computer...

I like my computer too but the computers make all our appliances and cars a lot more expensive to repair.

>5 Sergeirocks: I bet your car has more than one computer. I found this interesting...and rather scary bit of info about lines of operating code your car's many computers may produce. Just a portion of the entire article..."Mainstream cars may have up to 10 million lines of code and high-end luxury sedans can have nearly 100 million—that’s about 14 times more than even a Boeing 787 Dreamliner jet."

>7 Carol420: I was mad at my car's computer when it cut off my audio book in order to do routine maintenance check.
