I love Twain's travel writings but am happy with EP's "Masterpieces of American Literature" edition I recently purchased for $50.00. Illustrations are by Thomas Hart Benton. The DLE contains the "original" illustrations, though, that would make it a good match for some other Twain DLEs.

Why not buy the original LEC signed by Thomas Hart Benton published in 1944 for less money?

Too late! Didn't know about it. Actually, I do have some LECs, but it is hard to find them undamaged or without faded spines. The print in the American Literature edition is of course not letterpress, but it is clear and crisp.

3: Not quite the same thing. This is a facsimile of the first edition, with all the illustrations, of which there are an insane amount! Seriously, it's 100+ illustrations. Still, not knocking the LEC edition, just saying that there are reasons why such facsimiles are just as enjoyable to the right person :)

>5 astropi: I was responding to jroger1's post regarding the Benton illustrated edition not the new EP DLE.

6: Sorry, I misunderstood :)

So, anyone get this? I'm a big Twain fan, so tempting...
but, I'm spending too much money on books me think. Hmmm, is that right, can you spend too much money on books?? :O

>7 astropi: Sure you can spend too much money on books! I am working on paying off my Reader's Choice titles right now and must avoid the temptation of buying additional books at this time. I love buying and collecting books for my library, but also like the feeling of being debt free which is really hard since I just bought a new bookcase because my other two bookcases are full.

Ah, but do you really need a car and a refrigerator when you could fill your garage and your kitchen with bookcases instead?

9: Indeed! Who needs to eat?
I mean, once in a while maybe, but a complete, balanced, healthy diet with exercise? Do you know how many books you could have instead ;)

EP has made a change to the main page. A few added photos but mainly the box design has been changed.
