This might be old news, i'm out of the loop, but the new HOI collab project book is gonna be a collection of Sherlock Holmes stories and memoirs!

Part of the FS "Christmas Campaign" 2018.

The promise of a new fancy sherlock holmes binding has tons of potential, so i'm full of hype, personally.

"Selected"? Ack! No way.

Agreed. I've got no interested in an incomplete set.

Damn shame, complete set would be lucrative.

I'll say. Having just finished reading the Thornwillow hexology I now have craving for more Holmes; a new Folio set would have been something I'd thrown money at.

Unless I'm missing something in this thread both Folio sets - complete short stories (5 volumes) and complete novels (4 volumes) - are in abundant supply on Abe.

The last "Selection" was published by FS in 1997. Again, it is easily had on the secondary market for those who don't want the whole canon. No need to wait another year.

Does anyone know what these selected adventures might be? I’ve been wanting a nice Sherlock edition for a while now, hopefully this is it.

>7 kannekills: If you would like a nice Sherlock, the Thornwillow Hex mentioned above is a great letterpress offering. I finished mine today.

I have been eyeing the Thornwillow Hexalogy for some time now. I’m only hesitating because I can’t see if they’ll be making more in the same series, do you know?

They mention six other Sherlock titles on their page, but I’m not sure if they’ve already been released and sold.

Which binding option did you choose?

>9 kannekills: I am not aware of any other Holmes from Thornwillow, but I've only been following them for about six months.

I have the half-leather and very much like it, but I think the better deal is probably cloth -- $155 for a cloth-bound letterpress edition of this quality is hard to beat.

I agree, youre probably better off buying the full set(s) on abe/ebay for just a little more than what this is gonna cost.

>9 kannekills: If you can get the half leather cheaper if you wait for another kickstarter campaign. One pledge level of the recently finished Frankenstein campaign was a half leather Frankenstein with one of their past books in this series for 450$ each which is a considerable discount over the prices on their website. I went the cloth edition (together with the cloth bound sonnets for 240$) and it is really awesome.

>9 kannekills: Six stories in one volume. Perhaps the 6 volume image on the Kickstarter page was misleading.

>9 kannekills:

I highly doubt they will be making more Holmes in the near future seeing as the hexalogy is only their second kickstarter project, though that is not to say they might not in future but they're likely to focus on expanding this letterpress series into as wide a range of titles first.

Also to clarify the six other Sherlock titles on their page that you refer to ARE the ones being sold in one single volume and which is still available, except for the full leather editions which are sold out, not that I suspect you were planning on spending $1500+.

I too have the half cloth edition together with another half cloth Sonnets and soon Frankenstein. They are delightful editions which I find to almost the perfect size. They also very collectable which is why I opted for the cloth binding as I suspect I will be buying many more from them and wish to save my money for special titles to be had in the half leather.

The Thornwillow edition looks wonderful - very high quality. For those who want an illustrated, complete Holmes set printed letterpress, the Limited Editions Club edition can be found on the secondary market. I own a set in fine condition and love it.

>13 kdweber: Oh right, and now the title makes sense :D
No, I completely misunderstood that. I thought they were releasing them individually.

This would be my first letterpress, so I'm either going to get the paper or the cloth binding. I quite like the look of the paper (I think the colourful spine is pretty), but I'm not sure how the condition would look after a few reads. Does anyone know how durable the paper binding is? Maybe the cloth is the better value/long-lasting choice of the two.

Also, thank you >10 gmacaree:, >12 c_schelle:, >13 kdweber:, and >14 wongie: for your comments :)

>17 kannekills: I had both of them to compare them as I bought one as a gift for a friend. The paper wrapper version is the sewn textblock with a plain black paper and then the paper wrapper around it. The quality felt good, but it looked a bit crude up close from certain angles and when the paper wrapper was a bit loose. I asked my friend for some pictures and will post them here as soon as I get them.

Edit: Corrected description of the binding.

I went with the Barnes and Noble single volume Sherlock book. Saves a lot of shelf space compared to the current Folio box sets. However, would be interested in a new full folio set, perhaps published as multi-volume book collections as some are very short

I've been very happy with my FS short stories and novels sets - nicely balanced books in terms of production, size etc. Eminently readable. I could see the point in a rehash of one or both sets, even if I wouldn't be interested myself, but I can't see the point of a one-volume selection. I'd go so far as to say a complete waste of time.

This makes me excited for this book. Myself i have recently bought the red silhouetted complete tales collection by Folio, but i think i'll get this one as well.

Some of these are really good, some of them are dealbreakers whether i'll skip this book or not.

Erik Freij in particular, though maybe not the best (as in best fitting for this book), is doing something different. I like it

FS mentioned the upcoming Sherlock Holmes short story collection on their Instagram today. No details, though.
