Hello folks,
I'm not having any luck with either Amazon or my favorite local used book stores, so I thought I'd ask some fellow Thingamabrarians:
Anyone know if there is a hardcover edition of the 1818 version of Frankenstein out there? All I can find are paperbacks (and I own the excellent Everyman's Library paperback of it, actually), or extremely expensive used copies on amazon's marketplace.

Try Bookfinder.com. They seem to have used copies in hardcover. Apparently, there was a 1990 edition of the 1818 text put out by Courage books.

I recently bought a BEAUTIFUL hardcover edition from Millipede Press for $50. It's a bit expensive, but more than worth it. There is one higher priced h/c and one lower-priced pbk edition also available. Here is their description:
"The first in the Millipede Press Gothic Novels series, this edition features an introduction by Patrick McGrath, the complete novel, "The Vampyre" by John Polidori, "Fragment of a Novel" by Lord Byron, an extensive bibliography and filmography, and critical essays by Brian Aldiss, Radu Florescu, Mary Thornburg, James Reiger, Judith Halberstam, Albert Lavalley, Paul Cantor, and Christopher Small.
This edition also features a great cover by David Ho, a frontispiece by Berni Wrightson, and an extensive gallery of film stills relating to Frankenstein."
