Hello--
I enjoyed The Martian quite well, and was wondering if anyone has read Artemis, and if so, what do you think?

I have seen a couple of our group give it high marks, and positive reviews. I haven't read it yet, but it is on my list!

I enjoyed it. I have not read The Martian though so not sure if that will change your opinion of the book at all.

I recently got it from the library, and enjoyed it. I also enjoyed The Martian.

I didn’t love The Martian so probably won’t read this one, although the audio version does tempt me because of the lovely and talented Rosario Dawson.

I just read it over the holiday.
I love the science-based near future sci-fi aspects of his writing, and I'm always a fan of a good 'procedural' mystery, but I have to say his characters and plotting are nothing on his scientific worldbuilding. It's a bit like reading a modern Asimov. You're not really there for the characters, exactly.

I loved The Martian, but not Artemis. If you took out the science, there'd not be much left of the story. The main character ran around a lot swearing and complaining but her pertinent actions were a very small part of things.
The most interesting part, for me, was a conversation with the administrator who explained why bad people can be useful in a society. It was fitting, given the things happening in the world today.
I found out later that my husband had ordered Artemis for me for Christmas from our local book seller, but after hearing my complaints about it, she quickly told my husband and suggested that he get How We'll Live on Mars instead! So that's what I'm reading now.

>8 nhlsecord: And that is the benefit of a local, well informed bookseller, right there!

>9 MrsLee: That's for sure! We have her to thank for a lot of good reading.
(And a big pile of yet to be read books.)
