Hello everyone!! I am currently in the middle of three books and hope to have them read by end of Jan. Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, and Thirteen Moons by Charles Frazier.

My goals are not really to read more books, but more different books than I usually do. Last year, I had a long list to read but got involved in the Outlander series, so those books took the place of ones I had planned to read. I have a feeling that the Into the Wilderness series might pose the same problem for me.

My goals to read are as follows:

Big Books: New Testament
Les Miserables
Gone with the Wind
Ladies of the Club
Into the Wilderness

Classics: Last of the Mohicans
Lord of the Rings-yes shoot me, I never read this!
A Tale of two cities
Sense and Sensibility
Persuasion

I also have 1776 that I've been wanting to read and I want to try the Master and Commander series.

Because of recommendations from others on Library Thing, I want to try the following authors Margaret George, John Irving, Bernard Cornwell, James Michener, C.S. Forester, Sharon Kay Penman, Mary Stewart, and Larry McMurty.

I also have a few biographies and autobiographies that I would like to try: I married Wyatt Earp, Out of Africa, Letters of a Woman Homesteader, When the snow comes, they will take you away, and Paul Revere's Ride.

Any recommendations?

What a lovely list! Gone with the Wind is up there with my all-time favourites. I predict you will enjoy that very much. :)

I plugged through Lord of the Rings and finally gave up halfway through Return of the King which is a pity. I still intend to get back to it. Sometime...

I put up a post elsewhere about the best Dickens to begin with, and the conclusion was that it's better to start with Tale of Two Cities (why no touchstone??) than with Great Expectations.

Look forward to following your reading year!

Just completed Into the Wilderness. Loved it!! It was really an interesting story and if any of you are Outlander fans, you will really enjoy this series. Also, you'll catch several characters from Outlander in the story. It is not as technical as Outlander but very interesting indeed.

Enjoy!

I'm a big Outlander fan, and I've heard this book has some of the characters in it. I have it on my list, but I've been putting if off, is it really that good? I also want to read Last of the Mohicans, I hear that is key to reading it too beforehand. I hear the main character is sort of like an Elizabeth Bennet fromPride and Prejudice transplanted in upstate NY during the pre-Rev. period. Does that sound right?
