Gained permission with conditions: NYPL Digital Gallery

I have obtained general permission to use author images from the NYPL Digital Gallery on author pages in LT.

There are conditions:

Source must be acknowledged and a direct link be made to the image page in the NYPL Digital Gallery. Statement that permission is required must be added

The direct link can be found on the image page in the NYPL Digital Galley in the lower left hand corner in a box with label: Link to this item

I have tried to upload this image of the author Johannes V. Jensen (http://www.librarything.com/author/jensenjohannesv):

Using the above procedure (incl. credit with link to image and copyright info) but I keep getting this message when I do so:

"There was a problem uploading that file."

No sure what the problem is .. it could be that the link is somehow restricted to IPs in the US .. so if it is not too much to ask, could someone in the US please have a try and see if they have better luck?

I got it uploaded. For some reason, the extension for the image file was .org. I downloaded the image to my desktop and renamed the file so the extension was .jpg

After that, it would upload to LT. It wasn't related to the IP address since I'm in New York and had the same problem before renaming the file. This usually hasn't happened before with NYPL pictures.

I actually had a lot of problems with uploading their files to LT, and finally put them on my computer and uploaded them to LT from there.

I wonder if it's an OS/browser issue. I'm on a Mac OSX with Safari.

I had a lot of problems with them as well on some days (and finally gave up and downloaded the pictures to my computer). I don't think it's a browser issue--I'm XP/FF.

I don't know the technical issues of JPEG formats, but it's something with the NYPL images. I have to download to my computer before I upload to LT. And if I want to do any editing to the image, I have to use one software (Paint) to resave it again as a JPG so my other software (Viewpoint) can even be used on it to edit it. Without resaving it first, Viewpoint tells me it doesn't support this version of the format.

I do not think it is a browser issue either, I am XP/IE.

Hmmm I experimented by adding .jpg to the image url - but it blew up kT's file uploader with the biggest set of Warning messages I've seen in a while.
