I didn't make much of it. It seemed to be something she may have brought with her to the island. It was obviously from someone that knew her well...a friend or family member as they called her by a shortened version of her name.

Have been back to re-read it a couple of times and other than suggesting the woman had been to the islands before, the letter doesn't give too much away.
It could be read in one way to be from a would-be lover, or it could be read in another way which would appear to be quite innocuous, and perhaps suggestive of working together rather than being lovers.
But that's just my opinion and I may be digging too far under the surface, missing the simple message that's in there...
There's nothing there to say to me whether it was written by a man or a woman.

My impression was that it was from a man who was romantically interested in Alis. But it was rather vague and could be something completely different. I didn't get any other clues than that.

I thought it might have been from a man but there was nothing definitive to me.

I thought it indicated she had been to the island and was from a possible lover. Rather underwhelmed by the statement they could make a go of it.

>8 Andrew-theQM: To me, 'We can make a go of things' could refer equally as well to a business undertaking as to a romantic liaison. As you say, the sentiment came across as underwhelming.
