The characters are plenty and full of diverse personalities.
Sigma, represented by protagonist Painter Crowe and his partner Coral were exciting to visualize while they struggled to save not only Dr. Safia al-Maaz but all of Arabia and its surrounding cities from a catastrophe.
Something that was a bit odd was that Cassandra Sanchez, who betrayed Painter, and was a secret spy for an evil society group called the Guild, was miraculously able to obtain all her weapons, commandos and vehicles fruitfully supplied and promptly distributed on site, by the Minister.
The “good guys… Painter Crowe and his little mismatched band had only his partner and no outside support, odds were definitely against them.
Secrets that were revealed toward the end make Kara and her adopted sister Safia not only a really terrific part of Painter’s group but people that you can defidently root for.
Supporting characters, Omaha Dunn, Clay, and Danny…Omaha’s brother…filled out the remainder of the good guy team.
Lots of actual research went into the writing of this book that is highlighted in the Author’s Notes at is very, very, very long book. It made the story plausible in spite of the almost supernatural element that came into play with the arrival of the women that helped with not only the survival of Painter’s team but the discovery of the city of Ubar.
