Did they rush too quickly into a dive in the sea without fully thinking things through?

no - they had finally gotten ahead of the Dragon Court and they needed to take advantage while they could.

None of these people in any of our books ever stop to "think things through"... would anyone want to read about people "thinking? I'm not surprised they're all jumping overboard now.

Always some TSTL moments in these books.

They have to think on their feet; time is against them. What's the saying? 'He who hesitates is lost'?
These people have to trust in their own abilities to face whatever may crop up.

I think they had no other choice. They finally had a chance to get ahead of the Dragon Court.

I feel they could have taken a little more time to think things though (I know he who hesitates is lost) but might have saved time in the long run. But Hey who am I to judge!
