Group Read: Kristin Lavransdatter Book II, The Wife

Happy May, everyone, and welcome to the discussion of Kristin Lavransdatter II: The Wife! At this point, I think it's OK for us to discuss plot points from Book I without putting them under the spoiler cut, so here's the Official Spoiler Warning:

***Warning: This thread may contain SPOILERS for Book I***

But if you want to discuss any major plot points for Book II (or Book III), please continue to put those under the spoiler cut, like so.

That said, let's talk about Book II! Please feel free to post questions, comments, and reviews below. I haven't started yet, but I'm planning to read about a chapter a day this month so that I'm not cramming it all into the last few days!

I just finished the first book & made some comments in the previous thread. I will take a short break before continuing on with The Wife.

I plan to start The Wife in a week or so and I will probably read a small amount each day as this worked well for me with the first book.

Just wanted to give this thread a bump, since we're at the end of May! Has anyone finished Book II yet? How did you like it? I'm still working on it, so I don't really have anything to add yet, but please feel free to discuss if you are farther along!

Also, I'll post the thread for Book III tomorrow.

I have finished Book II and have started Book III. I found Book II very interesting but not quite as emotionally involving. There is a lot of intrigue and political maneuvering, but Kristin remains a fascinating character as do all the supporting ones. This book focuses on her life as a young married woman, her years of child bearing and the many relationships that she has with others, including her husband.

I've posted the thread for book III: http://www.librarything.com/topic/292016.

But I know I'l definitely still be checking and posting to this thread as I continue with book II! Hope to see some of you here! :)

I am currently reading (well, listening to) The Wife and think that I must be nearing the end of it. It is impossible to tell as the audiobook for the trilogy has the chapters marked as if for a single book! However, events lead me to believe that it is reaching a conclusion soon...

Finished book II a week or so ago, enjoying the story and the characters. Reading a chapter a day enables the story to gradually unfold nicely.

I finished Book II about a week ago -- I liked it slightly more than Book I. I found Kristin less likeable but also less annoying in this second book & thought that Erlendur turned out to be a much better husband &, though still flawed, more of a man than I would have guessed from his character in the first book.
