In a long-overdue decision, the 2018 American Library Association (ALA) annual convention in New Orleans stripped the name of Laura Ingalls Wilder from its childrens literature award. This action was taken in light of the many inappropriate references in her childrens books to African Americans, Native Americans, and others.

This ALA action thus removes the award's connection with the numerous scenes of white privilege depicted in these childrens novels from the US 19th and early 20th century time periods.
