That’s the sort of thing you find out about if you spend time with a typographer. As I know to my cost :-)

And when you think you’ve got that sorted out, they start telling you about all the fine distinctions between apostrophes, quotation marks and ticks...

That’s good timing for me – I’ve been spending my free time putting together a document all about fine distinctions among punctuation marks, with the items mentioned at 1 and 2 top of the list …
