I have just received a spreadsheet from the NPS of the 11,000 books from his library that they have. I have started an account, but didn't know how the financial side was handled. It is no big deal to pay for the upgraded lifetime, but is this how it is handled? Also I am uncertain how to post the list. Can I post it to a talk topic or would it have to be emailed to volunteers or messaged to their profiles?

Thank you for the help.

Tim, Abby, can we switch Carl's to lifetime status? (I'll email them as well in case they don't see this post). As for the list, it could be emailed to each volunteer - you might also be able to post it to a wiki page, although I confess I'm not entirely sure how that would work ... any wiki experts out there?

I'll add this library to the group page and to the wiki list of libraries-in-progress.

jbd1,
Thanks for the help. I may be jumping the gun, but how long does it usually take to get lifetime status. I don't want to seem too antsy, but I'd like to get moving on this. Any thing from your past experience would be helpful.

You're all set (sorry I didn't post to notify you when it switched over).

Wow, that was quick. I am still unable to enter any books over the 200 limit and the account still has "free". Also the link to this account has a typo. The d was left out of Sandburg. Thanks for any help.

Oh, sorry, I was looking in the wrong place, I guess it hasn't actually switched yet - I'll email Abby, and will fix the link.

I'd like to help with the Sandburg Library if you are still looking for volunteers.

iubookgirl,
Thanks, I could use the help. I still do not know how to distribute the list other than email. The list will not upload to the Wiki since it is not a graphics file. The only solution that I can come up with is to send a message to CSL's profile marked private. Then I can delete the message and send the file by email. If you can think of another way to distribute it, please let me know.

Thanks,

Thanks, I got the mail.

I converted the zip file to different formats to make it easier accessible.

The original zip file (1.4mb) is under http://www.bibliophilio.com/iseedeadpeople/sandburg.zip

The xls file (5.7mb) is under http://www.bibliophilio.com/iseedeadpeople/sandburg.xls

The pdf file (2.5mb) is under http://www.bibliophilio.com/iseedeadpeople/sandburg.pdf

Okay, thanks to J_ipsen the hosting problem has been taken care of. Anyone wanting to volunteer please let me know and pick a section that you would like. Just give me the line numbers that you are working on. There is something here for everyone's taste. It ranges from the classics to the racy (Butterfield 8) to detective and pulp (Young Sinners and Young Punks). Just let me know here or on the profile and I will send the password to your profile.

Thanks for any help.

The last book that I've entered is Canadian Folk Songs, Old & New on line 4828. Anything after that is fair game.

Oh Yes, I can always use some more. I'll give you the password on your profile page. If you could start at 20696 and work down to 24031, it would be great.
Thanks, KGordon for CSL.

One of the interesting things about this project, is in seeing the way "book people" treat their books, can make you feel like you're in good company. According to the cataloger's notes, the Sandburgs had no qualms about dogearing pages or reading and keeping books until the covers fell off. The notes give the page numbers for the bookmarks, I'm putting these in the comments section, and occaisionally the type of bookmark. The copy of Memoirs of Napoleon Bonaparte that I entered had a Hershey's wrapper as bookmark. At least, I don't feel as bad now about my grabbing whatever is handy.

I keep forgetting to post this, but could one of the folks at work on this project please add a short biographical note about Sandburg and a description of where the books are being catalogued from to the profile page?
Thanks!

I have a quick question. In one of Sandburg's books he has written "What a self-important meticulous old fuss & feathers". Should I just keep this as a comment or does it qualify as a review?

Could go either way, but I don't really see any huge reason not to stick it in as a review. Incidentally, what's the book?

The book is American Negro Folk-Songs by Newman Ivey White (touchstone won't work). Sandburg penciled it in after the introduction. I thought it was pretty funny.

Finally cleared the 9200 mark, only a couple of thousand to go.

I've been entering the inscriptions that are in the books. Usually they have been somewhat dignified, but I do enjoy the ones from friends and acquaintances. Geoffrey Dell Easton in his book Backfurrow wrote in his book "Sandburg: The next time you come east let me know and we'll get beered up. Where's Proctor?" I don't know who Proctor was, but I guess he was a drinking buddy.

Finally broke the 10,000 mark, only a couple of more to go.
