Is there any chance that we could go a year without the random Cat? We have it every year and seems like it might be better to give it a rest for a year.

>21 cyderry: Let's see how the votes pan out and we can discuss as a group then.

Also, I should have posted this when I opened the voting, but let's keep the discussion to the planning thread, so that it's all in one place :)

Geez, I didn't comment here, originally (though I voted ages ago!), so I haven't been following what's been happening. Rectifying that now... :-)

According to the instructions, voting does not end until next Friday. More voting has occurred, and now calendar and series are tied -- and the top 2 vote-getters each have an additional vote.

It's a close race for that third spot! :-)

I'm guilty of pushing the series one up, as a late voter. Figured it was all within the rules set out on the opening post! 😃

>33 The_Hibernator: Indeed it is!

35MarthaJeanne

That's one of the reasons I like to post the order of the top ones. It makes people realize where their vote could make a difference.

36Kristelh
Nov 6, 2018, 5:49 pm

Yes, I haven't commented either. I am feeling like this years CATs all seem similar. Not sure how they will play out month by month. I suppose that will be the next step after the CATS are finalized.

37whitewavedarling
Nov 7, 2018, 12:20 pm

>36 Kristelh:, I'm feeling the same way. It feels like there's a sort of weird similarity in terms of how much freedom/variety there'll be in those top choices, and while I really like the unpredictability of the randomcat, I engage with the challenges to help me choose what to read and make choices, and I'm not sure how that's shaping up.

38Kristelh

>37 whitewavedarling:, glad to hear that it is not just me.

39majkia
Nov 7, 2018, 1:28 pm

well, you can always start a KIT!

40LadyoftheLodge
Nov 7, 2018, 5:22 pm

I guess the challenge is all what a person wants to make it. To me, that goes along with the rules of "no rules." Any of the challenge categories listed here would make me get outside my usual reading comfort zones.

41VivienneR
Nov 8, 2018, 1:37 pm

>40 LadyoftheLodge: I agree. In previous years the categories chosen were not always the ones I voted for but they turned out to be as challenging as I wanted to make them, and always fun.

A reminder that voting closes tomorrow, Friday 9 November, at midnight Eastern time.

43sushicat

Uff - nearly missed the voting!

44rabbitprincess
Nov 10, 2018, 9:10 am

I checked the numbers at 0900 EST, and here are the winners!

RandomCAT is the first choice, with 38 Yes votes.

Close on its heels is the TBRCAT, with 35 Yes votes.

In third place are CalendarCAT and SeriesCAT, each with 28 Yes votes.

Given that we have a tie for third, and even the Maybe votes are within 1 vote of each other (8 for CalendarCAT and 7 for SeriesCAT), I think we should go ahead and have four CATs this year :)

We'll need people to organize the CATs. If you'd like to take the lead, please go ahead and set up a planning thread. I'll link to it on the main group page.

Thank you all for voting!

Thanks for doing this! I like the idea of four CATS. Sounds like a fun year of reading.

Offer still stands to help with wiki setups.

48LibraryCin
Nov 10, 2018, 12:30 pm

I can't do any wiki setups, but I'll definitely organize a month for Random and Series. Need more info on Calendar and TBR to know whether or not I'll do a month for those.

49RidgewayGirl

I'm happy to organize the TBRCAT, if no one else wants to.

>47 majkia: That would be awesome, Jean! Thanks :D

>49 RidgewayGirl: Yes please!

I will set up the planning thread for RandomCAT, because I have an idea for a month ;)

So now we just need two people to set up the planning threads for CalendarCAT and SeriesCAT. You don't have to have an idea for how it should work, just give the discussion a home.

51Kristelh
Nov 10, 2018, 1:24 pm

VivienneR was the one who suggested the CalendarCAT so I am waiting to see if she is going to start the planning thread. I am willing to look at that one.

>51 Kristelh: Thanks Kristel, I'll go ahead and start the CalendarCAT planning thread.

I'm pretty happy that we have four CATs, giving us lots of options.
