What do you like about this series?

What are you hoping for from this book?

I like the supernatural mixed with mystery along with Joe Plantaganet's character. Hoping to get more of the same in this last novel of the series and for the series to end with a nice relationship for Joe.

I do like the series and have given them all 4 Stars. I find Joe fairly depressing for some reason and hope something good happens to him for a change.

The last one? Aw, boo!
I've enjoyed the series and its supernatural aspect, which is not overplayed. I like the characters, especially Joe and his friend George (though I think George has been underused).
I have no expectations for the story other than to find it entertaining.

>4 Sergeirocks: Have Read The First four chapters and just reminded how well they are written. I love the first sentence and paragraph!

I hope she will write more, only three years since this one.

I just contacted Kate Ellis on her web page and sent her this letter:

Kate:
I belong to a group who has been reading your Joe Plantagenet Series and we just finished Walking By Night and were just wondering if you are planning to write more books for this series. We really were hoping for Joe to have a lasting relationship with someone. I was disappointed when Maddy came back and he turned her away. A good possibility would be Sally or bring a new character that he could have a relationship with. Also we love that Joe has secrets in his past and find that aspect very interesting too. Thanks again and we are definitely going to check out your other series and books.

Thanks again and hope to hear from you soon!

I got a reply and sent her another message:

Kate:
Thanks for your reply! One year or two would be fine for us as we have other authors' books that we read. We do 3 books a month and have about 5 or 6 series that we are reading so we have plenty to read in the meantime. My book group is going to be very happy when they find out that you replied to our request. We can start on your other series in the meantime.
Thanks again!

Hi Eadie

Thank you so much for your kind email. I'm so pleased to hear that you and your book group enjoyed my Joe Plantagenet books.

Ideally I would like to write more about Joe. However, I've been working hard on my main series (featuring DI Wesley Peterson and combining history with mystery, the latest book being The Mechanical Devil) and a new trilogy set in North West England in the aftermath of the First World War (something I felt I just had to write). Once my present contract with my main publisher, Little, Brown is fulfilled, I would very much like to work on a new Joe Plantagenet mystery but this won't be for a year or two, I'm afraid. You can keep up with all the information about my books on my website.

Thanks again for writing and very best wishes to you and your book group.

Kate

>9 EadieB: That’s great news, now we just have to be patient. 😳 Didn’t feel like an end, felt like more was to be revealed. The publishing world is interesting, shows authors aren’t always in control. I think we should read the Wesley Peterson books in the meantime.

Thanks Eadie. I'm going to pick up her new historical mystery. She's an author I never would have read without our group.

I've read all the Wesley Peterson series except the last one. I'll be picking it up soon. Thanks Eadie for contacting her and reporting back. Guess we'll have to wait for more of Joe.

Since I like historical fiction, I was going to check out the first book in the trilogy, but I noticed that the reviews on Amazon are not very good - only 3.2 out of 5. Goodreads is better at 3.78 out of 5. Maybe I'll wait and see how the reviews for book 2 look before I commit to book 1.
