Happy Monday, everyone! The chapters for this week are . . .

  • 25: The Egg and the Eye
  • 26: The Second Task
  • 27: Padfoot Returns
  • 28: The Madness of Mr. Crouch

  • Talk, talk, talk!

If I was JKR, I would recreate the prefect bathroom in one of my houses. It would be so cool!

#2 -- Oh, I agree! I'd love to have a bathtub like that one!

Okay, this time I made notes on each chapter, in hopes of getting more than seven pitiful replies to this week's discussion thread. . . .

    Chapter 25:
    - Myrtle is just downright unpleasant, isn't she?
    - The scene on the stairs is an interesting one -- four people (and a cat), each with different intentions, different secrets that they're trying to keep from one another, different things that they know about one another. . . .
    - Career advice -- it's interesting that Fake Moody gave Harry the one piece of career advice that managed to catch his interest.

    Chapter 26:
    - I get really impatient with Harry for procrastinating so long on solving the second clue, but it's exactly the sort of thing I would do.
    - I love that Lupin's lessons on how to deal with grindlylows come in handy here!

    Chapter 27:
    - The Crouch story is another case (as we later learn) where Polyjuice Potion comes in handy. I'm beginning to think that was the most useful potion JKR ever came up with, at least for the purposes of the HP series!
    - I'm surprised that Sirius, as a member of the original Order of the Phoenix, didn't know about the Dark Mark being on Death Eaters' left forearms.
    - Couldn't they come up with a better code name for Sirius the dog than "Snuffles"?

    Chapter 28:
    - I must say that, in the American edition, Grandpre's illustration at the beginning of the chapter is one of my favorites. Poor Winky!
    - Nifflers! I love the nifflers!
    - I really do think JKR should write Hogwarts, A History -- though perhaps we know most of the information contained in it from Hermione. Still, it would be a great charity book, like QttA and FB.
    - I have to agree with Hagrid: it was kinda stupid of Harry to go off alone with Krum.

About chap. 25, did fake Moody realize just how helpful he was being? It seems that he was playing his part way too well. He kept on giving Harry ideas and defenses that helped Harry more than once in the long run.

You're right, foggi, JKR should write Hogwarts, a History. I'd read it!

#3 what does QttA and FB stand for?

#5 -- Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them -- the two short tie-in books that J.K. Rowling wrote in order to donate the proceeds to charity.

We're almost there! Two more weeks of discussion and we'll be done with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire! Remember to read chapters 29-32 for Monday!

I finally got around to reading these chapters, which I missed last weekend for the pagan con, and here's what I have to say:

    1. What was the crowd looking at during the second task? All they could see was them diving in and surfacing. Hardly spell-binding.

    2. Sirius missing from the movie is such a mistake. Makes movie 5 less understandable. Actually, movie 4 leaves sooooo much out, it's practically a whole different story.

    3. SPOILER As to "Snuffles," it was foreshadowing. To "snuff it" is coloquial for die in England.

btw, I just went ahead and finished the whole book, so no more excuses for me for future threads.

8/1: the third task couldn't have been very exciting, either (oops, I am jumping ahead).

    #9 -- I had the same thought! ;-)

#8, point 3 -- I don't think it was very good foreshadowing, if foreshadowing it was. But I notice that the three of them are not very good at using his code name anyhow, so no matter.

Hm. I wonder if they set up some sort of magical giant TV screen so the audience could see the action for the last two events.

Omg, i loved all the different things they had to go through. But the thing i hate is that, everyone's obsessing about "Edward Cullen" and none about Cedric Diggory? Weird.(:

#12 -- You mean in the movies? I think there was a good bit of talk about how handsome "Cedric" was when Goblet of Fire was cast, but "Edward" is a much bigger role, so it makes sense to me that they're making more of a fuss over him now.

I like in the GoF movie how Mr Weasley, Mr Diggory and Cedric were kinda walking down from the sky.

I was also dissapointed in the maze for the movie. also in fleur. I didn't think she was such a ravishing beauty.

I agree, She should have been given the chance to prove that she isn't the raving lunatic she was made out to be
