Why did you think Augie had lied for Cal? Were you surprised by this?

I think he did it for Donna, his sister.

Not only for Donna but because his officers went overboard and the entire force could be in for a big time investigation by the police ethics committee for the violating Ca's rights. He doesn't want this in any way.

I think he did it for his sister but it was still very surprising and maybe a little too helpful. There may be something more to it that I don't know yet.

I think he did it primarily because his officers were out of line. I also think he's beginning to wonder if something is going on that he's not fully aware of.

I wasn't totally surprised by this, only slightly so. Blood is thicker than water; I think Augie stepped forward for Donna's sake. I also agree with >5 Olivermagnus:, Augie is becoming aware that something is not quite right at the coal face...

I was surprised but I think he did it for Donna. He also knows that Cal and Donna are going through a rough patch due to Scott's death
