I love maps, particularly historic (either in the sense of old maps or current depictions of old conditions, US Civil War, e.g.) maps.

I think the original poster was making reference to historic in an old European, Asian or whatever sense as opposed to old by U.S. standards. I'm posting info here under a separate heading for the Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps of U.S. Towns.
