The Sea Wolf by Jack London LEC 1961

Written in 1904 and set on a seal hunting boat in the northwest Pacific, this beautifully presented book tells a gripping story of seamanship, fate, brutality, love, betrayal , morals (and the lack of them), philosophy and the awakening of masculinity. It is amazing how many emotions and ideas Jack London can cram into 354 pages, he is certainly a great story teller, and those reading it for the first time will find it hard to put down before the conclusion.

The book is bound in coarse grey limp Irish linen, silk screened with a maroon design on the cover, and the title in black script on the spine. The endpapers are plain white paper, while the 29.3x20.9cm. slipcase is a dark maroon with the usual title label on the spine. The top page edges are tinted green.

There is a five page introduction by Edmund Gilligan, and 14 dramatic full-colour tipped in illustrations (two are double page) along with 16 integrated line drawings printed in maroon, by Fletcher Martin. The paper is suitably thick, and the type larger than average for a book of this size.

Nice pics! One of my very first LECs. Some don’t like the flexible boards but I think it is okay.
