A hijacking of some sort, but as of the end of the section we've had no indication as to the reason; and I, for one, cannot imagine where it links in with the story.

Lyla was chief technology officer of a company that produces micro-chips and other things like that that are supplied to varies companies...including military... around the world. Depending on how the hijackers (?) wanted to use Lyla...it was either intended to be a murder or a kidnapping.

I thought it was a hijacking. The fact that they knocked out the passengers rather than killing them suggests to me that the hijackers intend to take the passengers off of the downed plane. Maybe they need their skill sets for their "diabolical plan"

I thought it was a hijacking but a deliberately planned one for some future event.

Certainly looked and felt like a hijacking, I wonder why they didn’t want to kill them!
