Any thoughts what was affecting all the electrical systems on Diego Garcia?

Some sort of focused energy-disrupter; perhaps coming from one of Mallik's satellites?

Mallik was testing his system and used Diego Garcia as a practice area.

Something installed on the satellite that knocked out the microchips. Seriously...think about how many things in our everyday lives... that we take for granted...depend on microchips to even begin to function.
