What did you think they could do once the rocket had launched?

At some point they had to either kill or disable Millik and Murph would be able to do something with the rocket. The whole thing hinged on Millik be out of the picture though.

I kept thinking that someone (oregon or norad - someone) would launch a missile at it and take it out

I figured that someone had the capabilities to take out the rocket.
