Personally speaking, no. And definitely not with a gun - you can still get into deep trouble with the police for wielding a gun in the UK, even against intruders in your own home.
Sad to say, but we're helpless when it comes to protecting what's ours.

They were really sitting ducks. There wasn't much he could accomplish so he should have just locked the bedroom door and phoned the police.

I agree that he should have stayed in the bedroom and called the police.

Nothing is worth dying over. Just lock the door and keep the gun handy...just in case the locks don't work.
