Any thoughts on the old coin found with the body?

It possibly helps date the burial, (though being quite common, it could have been planted - just as well there were boat rivets in there too, to confirm the age of the body).

Certainly made us think it was a very old body, and this was confirmed by all those rivets. Very strange all that wood rotting away and leaving the rivets.

It could be used to prove the body was quite a bit older than twenty years.

it will help with assigning a date to the burial

The coin should definitely help to date the body.

Have to agree with everyone. Coins were often left with Egyptian mummies for payment for the ferryman to the afterlife. Don't see why the custom wouldn't have been observed in other cultures. The coins would probably be very close to the date the body was buried.
